What’s the most creative date night you’ve enjoyed with your beloved?

Do you enjoy shared activities together such as playing pickleball or attempting an escape room? Or do you bond better over a shared meal and extended conversation?

We love all of those options! But our most memorable date night idea came from a church friend of ours. His name is Josh and he recommended we each take $5 into Dollar General and purchase as many items as we could that illustrate our story of growing up.

We went into the store at the same time and snuck around trying not to catch a glimpse of what the other was purchasing. We checked out, hid our items in the bag, and headed out to dinner to discuss our stories with the aid of these props. The prompts sparked memories we wouldn’t have easily accessed and I remember the night was full of laughter.

If you give this a try, let me know how it goes!!

A couple years ago, we began intentionally preparing one question each for our upcoming date night. We have continued the tradition because these oftentimes become a highlight of our conversation for the evening.

We come up with these questions in part from podcasts we listen to, books we are reading, conversation with friends, or Scripture we read throughout the week. It’s a fun way to be on the lookout to jot down a meaningful question and anticipate the conversation it may spark!

For instance, I was re-listening to Joy in the Lord Even Through Tremendous Loss…Twice with Rachel Faulkner Brown and she said “We have not because we ask not.”

This made me think of John 16:24 (AMP), “Until now you have not asked [the Father] for anything in My name; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be full and complete.”

It inspired me to ask my husband, “What are you currently asking God for?”

We’ve found the simplest questions tend to spark the deepest conversation and I want to share a few of our recent favorite questions from date nights:

Five Q’s to Refresh Your Date Night:

  1. What is one phrase or specific compliment that is most reassuring or encouraging to hear from me?
  2. What is something I wouldn’t know to ask you about?
  3. What is something you are learning recently?
  4. What’s been your greatest temptation recently?
  5. What is your favorite topic to talk about?

Happy Date Night to You!

Sincerely,

Laura
