Making the Most of Summer, Part Two
Did you listen to any of the episodes or read any of the articles mentioned in yesterday’s post? I would love to hear your ideas! Make sure you are sharing your insight and inspiration with us on Instagram or Facebook!
It’s way more fun to do this together!
Now that we have reflected back on what worked and what didn’t, and considered what God may be revealing He has in store for us in the coming season, let’s continue preparing for an awesome summer!
Now we get to move from big-picture to actionable details. Let’s cover ways to put your vision into practice and actually make your hopes a reality!
Practicals:
What have we committed to already? Have we already scheduled vacations, camps, commitments, etc . . . Let’s take a moment to plug it all into the calendar.
Do we do better with a fluid schedule or a structured schedule? How can we ensure that happens?
To ensure a healthy amount of sleep is possible, what will be our bedtime routine? What will be our evening routine?
When we prioritize a healthy rhythm of sleep, what do we want our morning routine to include? When will it begin?
Where is the margin scheduled in our calendar?
What are specific ways we intend to nurture our marriage this summer?
When will we incorporate one-on-one time with each of our kids?
What do we want to say no to for 90 days?
What do we want to limit?
What is our plan for household rhythms this summer, such as meal prep and eating together, cleaning, or sharing chores?
Do we have any other miscellaneous summer goals, such as Scripture to memorize, people or places to visit, or projects to tackle together?
For additional practical questions, refer back to your answers from the Reflect and Vision sections yesterday, and follow up your answers with: What can I put into place from the lesson I learned from this response?
Do:
Now that we have our plan in place, we get to live it out and savor an intentional summer. A few things to remember during this stage are to be flexible and to check in monthly to maintain or adjust our schedule.
I like to pencil in reminders periodically on our calendar to check in with our progress, evaluate our rhythms, and make adjustments, as needed.
The goal is not to simply check off a to-do list of summer ideas. The purpose of this process is to meet with God, ask what He has for us in this season, faithfully steward the time He has given us, and gratefully reap the rewards!
We know when shooting an arrow, we aim above the target to succeed. In the same way, these answers may feel lofty, but they exist to aim us upward, in order to live with purpose in this next season. Each season is a gift and I pray we all steward it well and wisely. With God’s help, may this verse be true of all of us:
Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity Ephesians 5:15-16a (NIV)
May this be your most refreshing break yet! I pray you fully enjoy this season with loved ones!
Sincerely,
Laura
