Date Night Refresh: Grow in All Forms of Intimacy *BONUS* Ten Q's

Proverbs 4:7 “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” (NKJV)

Do you remember this verse from What Kind of Learner Are You? I would love to build on that as our foundation today. I’ll share a sampling of some of my favorite verses about wisdom:

Proverbs 2:6: “ For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (NIV)

James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (NIV)

This final set of verses doesn’t include the word wisdom, but it is still the path to wise living because it is revealing one reason why we turn to the Lord, and turning to the Lord is always wise.

2 Corinthians 3:16-17: “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (NLT)

God is the source of all wisdom, so what is one thing God has been teaching you lately? This is a question that comes up frequently in conversation with Mark. I love growing closer to him spiritually as I get to hear what the Holy Spirit is bringing to light from words in the Bible, or encouragement he has received from a friend’s story or answered prayer. Growing together spiritually is not the only form of intimacy where we can grow as one, so let’s consider a couple of others.

Strategically growing in intellectual intimacy is our newest addition to date night, as I shared in Additional Idea For Date Night. Mark and I now come prepared with one new thing we’ve read, listened to, or thought about this week. Elevated conversation on date night is consistently a highlight!

You’ve got the podcast episodes to listen to together or apart to grow in physical intimacy. Now here are a few questions to get you started to grow closer through exploratory conversation, so that you can grow in spiritual and intellectual intimacy with one another. Some of these questions I’ve collected from friends, or picked up in conversation. The final one is my personal favorite!

  1. What is painful, pressing, or persistent currently in your life?

  2. What’s one interesting thing you’ve heard on a podcast or read in a book lately?

  3. What’s one thing you’re hoping for and asking God for right now?

  4. What’s one disappointment (big or small) that’s occurred recently and is still on your mind?

  5. Is there a certain book of the Bible or verse from the Bible that is most meaningful to you? Why?

  6. If we could take a trip anywhere this year, where would it be?

  7. When was the last time you felt lonely?

  8. What is an activity that always leaves you feeling alive and more energetic?

  9. What area of holistic health do you hope to grow in this year? (Spiritual, Physical, Relational, Mental, Intellectual, etc . . .)

  10. What’s your savvy sauce?

What questions did I miss? I’d love to know some of the creative questions you enjoy asking one another on date night too.

Happy Dating!

Sincerely,

Laura
