Bonding Summer Activity with Children
How is summer going for you so far?
Has it looked the way you expected? Have you enjoyed living out the plans you made, back when we dreamed about our summer in May? When you refer back to Making the Most of Summer, Part One and Part Two, did you accomplish what you set out to do?
Remember, the goal of a summer bucket list is not to check off the boxes, but to maximize the opportunity for building relationships and creating memories in the process. By making your plan and seeking to live intentionally, you have wisely stewarded your time! I hope you reflect on summer and see tangible ways you were seeking God to live out this verse:
“Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity” Ephesians 5:15-16a (NIV)
Where I live in the midwest, there are four unique seasons. Quiet ice and snow capped trees in the winter look very different from the environment of popsicles and swimming pools filled with delighted children in the summer. In autumn, the glorious colors of changing leaves look and smell different from freshly cut grass and new buds that appear in springtime.
There is always something to be grateful for in each season. And I appreciate how God is always doing something new and giving us a tangible reminder of His fresh ideas and fresh ways through the variety every season brings. Sometimes new and wonderful things can’t grow until the old is cleared out.
“When the grass is gone, the new growth is seen,” Proverbs 27:25a (AMP)
If you are like me, you are about to transition into a season of sending your kids back to school, which brings on a very different rhythm and pace, compared to these past few months of summer break.
To close the chapter on summer and prepare for our children returning to school, I think one fun and bonding activity to do together is to ask our children these questions, perhaps over a fun treat to eat or drink. I hope you share these downloadable questions with your kids and have them write their own answers or record their answers yourself to save and reflect on.
I hope you enjoyed this process of reflecting and dreaming together.
May this season bring new growth, gifted to you by our loving and generous God, Amen!
With love,
Laura
