Ten Book Ideas for The Whole Family
Yes, we did . . . we purchased a bookshelf for all the library books we keep on hand at any given time! Right when you enter our home from the garage, you will find a happy bookshelf, perched on the counter to contain our ever-growing collection of library titles.
I love to support authors by investing our money in good books, but I really don’t like owning any books I don’t love, so we test them out first through our local library.
I’ve befriended the librarians in our small town and one just told me today that circulating books does indeed support them, so I don’t have to feel bad about requesting so many to check out.
If you’re like me, maybe you want to try out a few titles before you select ones to place under the Christmas tree soon. Here are ten of our family favorites so far from 2024:
Mark: Redeeming Your Time by Jordan Raynor (Be on the lookout for Jordan as an upcoming guest on The Savvy Sauce podcast!!)
Laura: If you want encouragement in motherhood, I highly recommend both A Charlotte Mason Companion by Karen Andreola and Mere Motherhood by Cindy Rollins. My favorite cookbook of the year has been Beautiful Boards by Megan Brown
Selah, age 10 (for a few more days): The Secret School (2 book series) by Avi
Shiloh, age 9: Epic Order of the Seven (9 book series) by Jenny L. Cote
Isla, age 7: The Littles (17 book series) by John Peterson
Kessler, age 5: Classic Fairy Tales Volume 1 (8 books in series, but we have only read this one so far) by Scott Gustafson
Family Favorite: Orphan Train Adventures (7 book series) by Joan Lowery Nixon
Rather than list a tenth book recommendation, I want to encourage you to order For Girls Like You Magazine! This has been a family favorite for years, as it serves tween girls and encourages them in a godly way.
There’s also a surprise in the first copy of the new year, but that’s all I can say for now . . . you’ll discover the secret once it arrives! Eek!!!
And just because I can’t resist bonuses, here’s a bonus mention: Our daughters’ favorite audiobook series this year is Baxter Family Children (5 book series) by Karen Kingsbury.
At The Savvy Sauce, it is our mission to Share Joy! I hope that sharing these titles has been a small way to share a bit of joy in a season where we celebrate the true Joy-Bringer, Jesus Christ.
Luke 2:10-11 (NIV) But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Merry Christmas to you and yours and I look forward to seeing you here in 2025!
Sincerely,
Laura
